He has published widely on ancient Greek, Roman and Chinese art and is completing a Leverhulme funded project on The Axial Age and the Institution of Art in Ancient Greece and early Imperial China. Andrew Gardner is Professor of the Archaeology of the Roman Empire at the UCL Institute of Archaeology. His research interests include the social dynamics of imperialism, the role of material culture in the construction of identity, and the ways in which people in different societies understand time.
