Wat Hopkins, Ph.D., is an associate professor of communication studies at Virginia Tech, where he teaches journalism and communication law courses. He has a master's degree in journalism and a Ph.D. degree in mass communication research, both from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a reporter for seven years before he began teaching. He has written widely and made a number of presentations on First Amendment topics. Mass Communication Law in Virginia is his third book.
