Mary And The Mysterious Star Stone

Overview

Mary And The Mysterious Star Stone is a gentle science-fiction picture book about belonging, discovery, and the quiet courage of a curious child. Mary is a ten-year-old girl who lives with her grandparents in a small cottage overlooking the sea. Although she is loved and cared for, Mary knows little about her parents. Whenever she asks, her grandparents kindly change the subject, leaving Mary with unanswered questions about who she is and where she came from. Most evenings, Mary walks alone along the beach, collecting pebbles and shells. One night, she discovers something extraordinary - a smooth, silver stone half-buried in the sand, warm to the touch and glowing faintly blue. Mary names it the Star Stone and takes it home. That night, the Star Stone comes to life. It introduces itself as T.I.M. - a Technical Interplanetary Machine - and reveals that it has been watching over Mary. Through glowing images of stars, planets, and distant worlds, Tim shares the truth Mary has been searching for. Mary learns that her parents were space travellers who rescued her as a baby during a dangerous mission. Unable to safely raise her on Earth at the time, they entrusted her to a kind couple they met on the beach - Mary's grandparents - promising to return when it was safe. Mary finally understands her past and her place in the universe. Though her parents never returned, she realises she has always been loved, protected, and chosen. With the Star Stone's help, Mary gains not just answers, but a deeper sense of who she is - a child of Earth, and of the stars.
