Overview

In a small village, far from time and the world, hidden in the silence of a deep forest, lives a poor family with little hope. The father, injured in an accident, can no longer work. The mother, fragile but courageous, takes care of little Alice, who is just one year old. And so, the entire burden of survival falls on the shoulders of Martina, a ten-year-old girl with a big heart and a pure gaze. Martina cannot go to school: every day, she walks a long and tiring path through the woods to reach the house of a wealthy family in the nearby village, where she works as a maid. The journey is hard, often freezing, but Martina never complains. She has a light inside her, a courage that no one has taught her. She cannot turn away: neither from people's pain, nor from a wounded or lost animal. On her journey, she will meet mysterious figures, some real, others perhaps born of her imagination, who will test her, pushing her to doubt herself, the world, and even the goodness she carries in her soul. Yet every suffering, every sacrifice, every gesture of kindness she gives without asking for anything in return will lead her to a destiny she could never have imagined. In the end, it will be through Martina that even the hardest and most indifferent soul will discover the true, profound meaning of Life.
