Table of ContentsReviewsA photogenic insight into some of the best market towns looking at history, culture, local lifestyle and town landscapes. -- Publisher: Graffeg Graffeg have specialised in large format titles containing superb photography and text to tell the readers enough about their subjects to arouse further interest. The books are aimed equally at tourists in Wales as well as Welsh-based readers. Some of these books are by David Williams, and this latest title is certainly up to Williams’s usual standard. It explores life in market towns throughout Wales and there are wonderful images of shops, pubs, notable houses and gardens, as well as churches and many buildings of historic interest. But, importantly, the people have not been forgotten and I was captivated by the photograph of elderly farmers at a sheep mart in Dolgellau, which resembled one of Aneurin Jones’s wonderful paintings of rural Wales. The detailed picture of the Bear Hotel at Crickhowell must be a delight to children, as it is to someone like me who has never quite grown up. The historic town of Ruthin, five miles from my home, is dominated by the spire of St. Peter’s Church, and the magnificent Castle Hotel takes pride of place on the hight street, as shown in the book. One of the wonderful stained glass windows at St. Mary’s Church, Mold is here, as is also the town's celebrated Saturday market. These are just a few of the treasures which the reader and browser will encounter in this most rewarding book. -- Dewi Roberts @ www.gwales.com Author InformationDavid Williams is a writer and photographer specialising in the heritage, culture and landscape of Wales.
