Born in Melbourne in 1928 and ordained in Sydney in 1955, he enjoyed a long and varied career with the Anglican Church, including student work with the Inter Varsity Fellowship and parish ministry in suburban Sydney. He was the International Chairman of Interserve, the International Chairman of the Evangelical Fellowship of the Anglican Communion and the Chairman of the Lausanne Movement. After retiring, he served as a missionary in Nepal for two years followed by shorter periods of ministry in Asia and the Middle East.
