OverviewOculoplastic surgery is the cosmetic, corrective, and reconstructive surgery of the eye. It manages and repairs problems primarily related to the tissues or structures surrounding the eye (eyelids, tear ducts, orbit), rather than the eyeball itself (healthcommunities.com). Orbitopathy is a condition associated with swelling of the tissue in the orbit creating bulging of the eyes. It is associated with Graves’ disease, a condition that causes over-activity of the thyroid gland (Johns Hopkins Medicine). Dacryology is the study of the lacrimal (tear) system and is associated with ‘dry eye’. This book is a comprehensive guide to oculoplasty, orbitopathy and dacryology. Beginning with an introduction to the basic concepts, the following sections discuss the diagnosis and surgical management of various disorders associated with each of these subspecialties. Emphasis is placed on both quantitative and qualitative diagnostic assessment and nearly 750 clinical photographs and illustrations assist learning.
