Overview

This work seeks to lay the foundations for drawing up a management plan for the Manso River Special Protection Area, a territory aimed at preserving the water sources of the Manso River reservoir, which supplies the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, the capital of the state of Minas Gerais. The protected area does not yet have a management system and, on the other hand, it has mining, agricultural and pastoral activities upstream of the water catchment reservoir, which use the most diverse types of agrochemicals and chemicals for the treatment of iron ore in their production process. The region also has no treatment for domestic sewage.
