Sheehy IndexReviewsNo one individual is likely to be fully knowledgeable on all aspects of the work of a kind of library, or all components of a particular function. Therefore, guides like Carolyn Sheehy's Managing Performing Arts Collections in Academic and Public Libraries, which rely on a range of contributors who have taken their time to prepare essays specifically for publication, are generally the most satisfactory. In this case, Sheehy herself has done an excellent job of providing a solid historical overview and a selected annotated bibliography. This is an outstanding example of the type of guide that provides a broad overview and that is most likely to be useful to all who are engaged in any aspects of this field of librarianship. -Wilson Library Bulletin Carolyn A. Sheehy and Greenwood Press have provided a handy overview of management issues in performing arts librarianship; this book should be of primary interest to library school students interested in directing their professional careers to the fields of dance, film studies, music, or theater librarianship in an academic or public library setting. ...is a good general introduction to the complex issues of performing arts librarianship for those coming to the topic for the first time. -Collection Management Sheehy has organized an enjoyable yet practical journey through the development and management of libraries and special collections for the performing arts. Opening with an uncluttered historical account of the formation of the field of performing arts librarianship and its categories, Sheehy sets the stage for the practical chapters highlighting management issues relevant to these collections. Closing with a substantive, well-annotated bibliography and index, this book will be an interesting tool for any professional in the field of humanities librarianship. -Library Journal ?Carolyn A.
