OverviewThe Bontioli wildlife reserves, located in south-west Burkina Faso, were set up to protect biological diversity, particularly its wildlife component. The general objective of the present research is to analyze the evolution and management of plant formations in the Bontioli wildlife reserves. The methodological approach is based on the interpretation of Landsat TM, ETM+ and OLI-TIRS satellite images from 1986, 2002 and 2018, floristic inventories and socio-economic surveys. The tools used include software, questionnaires, interview guides and floristic survey sheets and equipment. The results show that land-use units underwent significant change between 1986 and 2018. Field and fallow land areas declined by 60.61% and 52.80% respectively in the total and partial reserves. On the other hand, shrub savannah has increased by 43.80% and 23.07%, and bare soil by 5.28% and 26.01%. As for wooded savannah, the increase in surface area is perceptible in the total reserve (13.38%).
