OverviewPig farming is currently one of the activities seeking to improve technologies and adapt them to the different realities found in rural areas. An intrinsic characteristic of intensive production is the concentration of a large number of production units in a small area, as well as the intensification of these units. However, in recent years, the negative environmental impacts of this system have become obvious. This combination of factors has led to high demand among technicians for technological solutions that are suitable for the management and disposal of pig waste, which are, at the same time, compatible with the economic conditions of producers, meet legal requirements and can be easily implemented. These solutions are not always easy to implement, either due to problems arising from inadequate facilities, since only recently has the issue of waste been effectively considered in the design of pig buildings, or due to the financial difficulties of pig farmers, or even the lack of knowledge among technicians about the most appropriate technological options for each case.
