OverviewStart your engines...the race is on! And Mama Lion and Tigey are off–with their cool goggles and snazzy sports car! As Mama Lion says, winning is winning, but sometimes the journey itself–filled with ineffable moments of mystery, beauty, and joy–is even more fun than getting the prize. With cars inspired by the early days of Italian motor-racing and characters based on his children's beloved toy animals, Jon J Muth has created a uniquely spellbinding book. Delightful and sweet, with a dose of whimsy and the special appeal of fast cars and competition. -- Kirkus, starred review * Muth's artistic talents are at full speed here. His stuffed animal-like lion and tiger, along with toy characters seemingly drawn from other storybooks, are delights, and racing lovers will adore the takes on early Italian racing vehicles. Mostly, though, its Muth's freedom of art that entrances. The strong palette, perpetual motion, swirls of color, and unexpected perspectives are all underpinned by the solid values of courtesy, respect, and friendship that move gracefully through the story. -- Booklist, starred reviewPraise for Zen Socks * Muth's art remains strikingly beautiful, and Stillwater is perennially charming. -- Publishers Weekly, starred review * Muth makes a meditation on patience, kindness, and faith not only accessible, but charming. -- School Library Journal, starred reviewPraise for Hi, Koo! * It's a joyous addendum to the Stillwater books, and it overflows with the same characteristic tenderness. -- Publishers Weekly, starred review * Yields huge effect; in a word, magical. -- Kirkus Reviews, starred review Even readers who are not typically interested in poetry will be captivated by Muth's artistry in both words and images. -- School Library JournalPraise for Zen Shorts A Caldecott Honor Book Appealing enough for a group read-aloud, but also begging to be shared and discussed by caregiver and child, Zen Shorts is a notable achievement. -- School Library Journal * Both an accessible, strikingly illustrated story and a thought-provoking meditation. -- Booklist, starred review Praise for Zen Socks * Muth's art remains strikingly beautiful, and Stillwater is perennially charming. -- Publishers Weekly, starred review * Muth makes a meditation on patience, kindness, and faith not only accessible, but charming. -- School Library Journal, starred review Praise for Hi, Koo! -- School Library Journal Praise for Zen Shorts A Caldecott Honor Book Appealing enough for a group read-aloud, but also begging to be shared and discussed by caregiver and child, Zen Shorts is a notable achievement. -- School Library Journal Praise for Zen Shorts A Caldecott Honor Book Appealing enough for a group read-aloud, but also begging to be shared and discussed by caregiver and child, Zen Shorts is a notable achievement. -- School Library Journal * Both an accessible, strikingly illustrated story and a thought-provoking meditation. -- Booklist, starred review Author InformationJon J Muth is beloved all over the world for his seven books featuring Stillwater the Panda, whose love and balanced approach to life always serve to make the world a better place for his young friends.
