Overview

References to the Holy Quran contain the name of the Surah [i.e. chapter] followed by a chapter: verse citation, e.g. al-Jumu'ah, 62:4, and counts Bismillahir- Rahmanir-Rahim [In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful] as the first verse in every chapter it appears. Explanatory footnotes are clearly marked as being from the Publisher throughout the book. The name of Muhammadsa, the Holy Prophet of Islam, has been followed by the symbol sa, which is an abbreviation for the salutation sallallahu alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The names of other Prophets and Messengers are followed by the symbol as, an abbreviation for alayhis-salam (on whom be peace). The names of the companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammadsa or of the Promised Messiahas are followed by the symbol ra, which is an abbreviation for the salutation radiyallu anhu/anha/anhum (may Allah be pleased with him/her/ them). The names of deceased pious Muslims who are not companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammadsa or of the Promised Messiahas are followed by the symbol rh, which is an abbreviation for rahmatullahi alayhi/alayha/alayhim (may Allah have mercy upon him/her/them). In instances, the actual saluta tions have been set out in full, but wherever this is not the case, they should nevertheless, be under stood as being repeated in full in each case.
