The concept of sexual and reproductive health was first fully articulated at the International conference on Population and Development. It is generally acknowledged that sexual and reproductive health must address key disease entities- sexually transmitted disease, HIV/AIDS, maternal motility as well as positive life enhancing aspects such as safe and satisfying sex life. Sexual health is a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality and not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity (WHO). Sexual health is influenced by a complex web of biological and social factors. It requires a positive, responsible approach to sexuality and sexual relationships as well as pleasurable, safe sexual experiences that are free from coercion, discrimination or violence.
