OverviewMalaria is a type of parasite-borne disease. The parasite is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Plasmodium vivax, plasmodium malariae, plasmodium falciparum, and plasmodium ovale are the four main malaria parasites infecting humans. Malaria can cause a variety of symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, rapid heartbeat, fever, and diarrhea. A blood test is used to diagnose the presence of malaria. Blood tests for malaria can be classified into several types, including rapid diagnostic tests, antibody tests, drug resistance tests, and molecular tests. The drugs used to treat malaria include artesunate, mefloquine, chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine, and artemether-lumefantrine. There are two promising malaria vaccines, which include the PfSPZ vaccine and the RTS, S/AS01 vaccine. This book provides comprehensive insights related to malaria control and vaccination. It is compiled in such a manner that it will provide in-depth knowledge about the control and vaccination of malaria. This book will serve as a reference to a broad spectrum of readers.
