OverviewA book of love and rejection: For weeks, the mountain continued to eject molten rock and hot ash, covering the ground like snow and burying residents under heaps of poisonous smoke and cinder. Columns of hot gas raced through the streets of Rome, pulverizing all pedestrians and crushing homes and markets. Many more volcanic eruptions continued to take place and hundreds of people were obliterated and buried beneath heavy ash deposits. The lives of Rome's inhabitants became permanently damaged as they watched their loved ones die before them. With each day, the fire atop the mount raged on, and the intense heat caused locals to die from dehydration, and often, their organs and blood vaporized from exposure to the hot ash. Many unfortunate victims became vitrified by the rising temperature that resulted from the volcano. For weeks, the earth shook. In the dismal dark fields, wild animal roamed grievously. The thunder boomed like a battle cry, as though it would ravage the empire. The people knew it was the wrath of God which had descended upon them. They realized that the murder of Saint Georaej would result in heavenly retribution. They knew they had to accept the peace and brotherhood of Jesus and accept God's words and obey all the commandments in His scripture, but the leaders of Rome were pagans and they disavowed any discussion of a deity.
