Mad Spiders and Fishermen

Overview

Booker is a spider who lives with his family-wife Silken and five children-in a community of other spiders. The community is located in an abandoned cabin, which has been mythologized in a legend about mysterious beings who built the place, then left it, with the warning that they would someday return. As is foreshadowed, Bart, the son of the previous owner, turns up and sweeps away the spider community. The spiders survive, but their shelter and food sources are taken away, leaving them in dire straits. Booker takes it upon himself to win back the cabin for the sake of his family and friends, but he soon learns that diplomacy may be more effective than force in achieving his aims.

Author Information

After over 40 years in the business of making paper, I've decided to actually write something on it rather than just making it. Hi, I'm Walter Tarnowsky, the author of Mad Spiders and Fishermen. The story I've written includes bits and pieces from my childhood and combines it with my fascination with spiders. Growing up in northwestern Ontario (Canada) where lakes dot the landscape, it was fishing that preoccupied much of my time as a youth. There are snippets of my fishing recollections throughout the story but more importantly, there's a theme running through the book that conveys my values and beliefs. You can't judge a book by it's cover and you shouldn't judge a creature by the way it looks. Our little spider friends have always been labelled as creepy but we need to look beyond their unfortunate complexion. There's always more to beauty than appearance. I'm retired now and have found a passion that I never knew I had.....writing! The next book in this series is titled, Mad Spiders Down Under. These books are written for young adults but I hope that kids both young and old enjoy it.
