I ended up being a Pediatric Heart Surgeon which was a skill welcomed around the world. Wherever I went as a volunteer, I operated on children by day, and played Chess with my hosts in the evenings. My afterschool Chess began at Berkeley Youth Alternative , where I was mentoring , journaling mostly, and one time suggested that I bring Chess boards. That continued weekly for almost 2 decades. I now have a Chess club in a library or after school program almost every afternoon. I believe we create our identities through the stories we tell about ourselves.
