John 'Hoppy' Hopgood, pilot and 2nd in command in the May 1943 Dambusters raid, died a hero at just 21 years old. Jenny Elmes was educated at Durham University and is a retired teacher. She took part in the 50th anniversary tour of the Dambusters in 1993, and joined in the 70th anniversary at Scampton/Lincolnshire in May 2013. She is the author of two books and writes for local magazines and newspapers in Dorset.
