Overview

A tadpole, also referred to as a pollywog, is the larval stage in the life cycle of an amphibian, specifically either a frog or toad. At this stage they're herbivores and usually aquatic though some species can be terrestrial. Later in theur growing stages they will lose the tail and gills in preparation for the next life cycle with legs and a mouth abd internal organs suitable for a carnivorous lifestyle. In some parts of the world, tadpoles are raised for human food. In China, Peru and India, tadpoles are used to produce medicines as well as food.
