Beginning her career as a general education preschool teacher and then an early childhood special educator, she taught in Head Start, inclusive preschool programs, and a myriad of district special education programs across Southern California. With expertise in child development and disability inclusion, Dr. McKee has always centered the voices of young children, especially those with disabilities, in her work. Now a professor of special education and the proud author of children's books that celebrate inclusivity, accessibility, and belonging, Dr. McKee draws inspiration from her years of singing songs, reading stories, and building trusting relationships with preschoolers and working with their families. Her books reflect her lifelong passion for honoring each child's unique strengths, communication styles, and family stories. Whether she's researching inclusive education practices or writing about a lovable chocolate Lab puppy named Lucy, Dr. McKee is guided by one belief: every child deserves to feel seen, safe, and loved. One way we do that is by designing materials for all. Kirsten Elizabeth is a California based illustrator and single mother to three boys with disabilities. She has been an artist for over ten years and an illustrator for four, illustrating nine books to date. When she's not working, she enjoys time with her children and her 13-year-old dog named Aki and a 7-year-old cat named Jasper. Her work is inspired by caregiving, nature, and everyday life, and she loves creating cozy, whimsical illustrations for all. Lisa Baker is a teacher, author, designer, editor, and publisher. She works hard to bring books created by real-life people to children for their education and enjoyment.
