Lucille's Light

Overview

Lucille shivers lighting the hearth in the morning as her parents prepare for a long day working in the castle. The prince, in contrast, sleeps soundly with his fireplace already lit and warm. Lucille is alone but never lonely. Her friends live in the woods. The sunflowers, trees, and birds greet her each morning. They love Lucille and share their ways. The sunflower teaches Lucille how to pull sunbeams into her body and soon Lucille is filled with light. In the meadow, Lucille closes her eyes with outstretched hands. The crows warns her from above, so she opens her eyes. The prince stands over her with a beveled box and demands the light. The light refuses. Angry, he throws the box at her and stomps away. Lucille drips light on her raspberries so they grow all seasons. Everyone loves Lucille. The prince is not loved. His days are spent alone counting his gold. When he hears Lucille's name, his blood boils. Time passes. Lucille and the now king have daughters who become friends. Lucille's daughter pulls in the light, but the princess has nothing except a lonely castle. One day, the princess spots the beveled box and knows she has a destiny to connect Lucille's light with the castle. She visualizes an image of a tall hot house next to the castle absorbing lots of light to grow more raspberries for the kingdom, her kingdom. The king grumbles but agrees. The hot house it built. More raspberries are grown. Lucille and her raspberries are loved far and wide. The king grows old. He counts his gold. The fireplace glows but he is alone as he grows old.
