Overview

In Loxo the Big-Hearted Elephant, we learn how one elephant's actions can benefit a wide variety of creatures, such as: impalas, ants, termites, oxpeckers, and dung beetles. Whether it's through dropped branches, removed bark, or the dung they leave behind, this playful story shows how important keystone species are for their environment. Colorfully illustrated and filled with fun facts throughout, we follow Loxo as they search for food throughout their day ultimately arriving at a bee-protected mango farm. There, we learn how humans can work in harmony with their environment through innovative methods. By the end of the day, Loxo reunites with other elephants by the waterhole where they all enjoy some tasty figs and a cool drink.

Dr. Kate Thompson is an internationally-acclaimed expert in environmental sciences, with a distinguished career dedicated to biodiversity conservation. As the Programme Director for Elephants Alive, Kate channels her deep passion for wildlife and extensive academic background into groundbreaking conservation work.From a young age, Kate felt an instinctive connection to nature, spending her childhood immersed in the outdoors and driven by a desire to protect the natural world. It was during her academic journey that she turned her passion into her calling, as she earned her PhD in African elephant conservation from Bournemouth University, following an MSc in Biodiversity Conservation and a BSc in Environmental Science from Aberystwyth University. Laura Girling is an Illustrator and creative Designer with a love for bold colour, dreaming up fun characters, and creating visuals that make people smile! Since graduating from the Arts University Bournemouth, Laura has been bringing her signature playful style to a wide range of projects including greetings cards, stationery ranges and editorial illustration, as well as surface pattern design for home, kids wear, and nightwear.
