OverviewThe author is a sensitive man who has always had two equally strong feelings for women: loving and sexual. These poems describe his struggle for love with personal meaning in a rapidly changing world. His journey begins in childhood, with romantic fantasies and parental taboos within a fairly rigid moral climate, offering prized security but causing problems in accommodating clamouring sexuality. Then comes the 60s “revolution” with its legacy enduring to the present, bringing the opposite puzzle of how to preserve his love of women, making him anxious and confused. The poems deal with how this plays out in his relationships with different women, his feelings about them and the present age, and his final resolution.
