OverviewSince the introduction of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2016, little information exists on its use by serodiscordant couples living with HIV. This book explores, through a qualitative study conducted at the Muhungu Diocésain health center in Bukavu, the strategies used by these couples to reduce the risk of transmission, their level of knowledge about PrEP, as well as the obstacles encountered. The results reveal an almost total lack of knowledge about PrEP and an initial dependence on condoms, often abandoned after a few months. Lack of information and disorientation by some providers appear to be the main barriers to PrEP uptake. This book highlights the urgent need to train healthcare providers and strengthen community awareness to support serodiscordant couples in their quest for a risk-free love life.
