Overview

A garishly painted figurine contains a terrible curse; the ten-year anniversary of a sensational horror film shot in an abandoned mine reveals stunning secrets; endnotes for a book review uncover a strange high-tech pathogen; a man witnesses something uncanny and unexplained as his friend succumbs to a watery death; a seasick woman aboard a ferry is pursued by a barnacle-covered specter; a professor reveals the mysterious connection between Joseph Conrad and Peter Pan; a man encounters the ghost of his lost sister in a liminal space between the land and sea; an academic meets a mythical creature on a mysterious island. John Langan, author of the Bram Stoker Award-winning novel The Fisherman, returns with thirteen new tales of cosmic horror in Lost in the Dark and Other Excursions. In these stories, he continues to chart the course of twenty-first century weird fiction, from the unfamiliar to the familial, the unfathomably distant to the intimate. ""This is an author at the height of his powers."" --Publishers Weekly, starred review

Author Information

John Langan is the author of two novels and six collections of stories. For his work, he has received the Bram Stoker and the This Is Horror awards. He is one of the founders of the Shirley Jackson Awards and continues to serve on its Board of Advisors. He lives in New York's Mid-Hudson Valley with his wife, younger son, and the late night calls of owls. Ray Greenley is an Oregon-born narrator living near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has many years of stage acting and narrating experience. In addition to his acting experience and training, Ray has a background in computer science. When not working in his professionally built voice-over booth, Ray enjoys spending time with his family of seven kids, several of whom he still reads to before bedtime. He also loves playing board, video, and role-playing games and being Cubmaster for his kids' Cub Scout Pack. Jenn Lee has been a working actor since the age of eighteen, when she moved to New York city to star in the world's longest running musical, The Fantasticks, as the youngest Girl ever. She is a veteran of three Broadway shows, including Les Miserables (as both Cosette and Éponine). Jenn has trained classically with Esper Studios and the Actors Movement Studio. She has been a union member for over twenty-five years and worked both around the country and in Europe. Her career in voice-over includes three documentaries for PBS: The Swamp and The Great War and Custer for Ken Burns. With over forty books recorded, she continues to be a director, teacher, coach, cancer survivor, fabric artist, and mother!
