At the age of twenty-four Ellen Daniels was diagnosed as having a rare eye condition; at thirty-five she was registered as blind. Nine years later, widowed and with two dependent children, she reached a major turning point in her life when she realized she had a gift for listening to the wants and needs of other blind people.
