OverviewBetween 1956 and 1960 Sonia Hawkes excavated an Early Iron Age settlement at Longbridge Deverill Cow Down, Wiltshire, following the discovery by J.K. St. Joseph's aerial photographic survey of a complex of three enclosures on the site. The most significant discovery was evidence for four roundhouses dating to the 8th-6th centuries BC, three of comparable size to those excavated at Pimperne, Little Woodbury and Winklebury. One of the roundhouses had burnt down, preserving in situ a significant assemblage of artefacts, particularly pottery. A field survey of the site and surrounding area was carried out during the excavation by RCHM and completed in the 1980s by David McOmish. Full Product DetailsAuthor: Sonia Chadwick Hawkes , C.F.C.
