Overview

Long Shall You Live is a memoir following the lives of a young couple, Mienus and Suze, during the Nazi occupation of Holland during WWII. It traces Mienus' involvement in the Dutch Resistance in Vlaardingen and Rotterdam as a young patriot, and his subsequent struggle to survive the horrors of Buchenwald Concentration Camp. This story shares the love and the faith of these first-generation survivors following their liberation, and the challenges they face immigrating to the United States. The book continues with the personal story of the author's life as a second-generation survivor and the fulfillment of the commitment she made to her parents to Never forget what happened, and never let it happen again.

Author Information

Marja Henderson was born on January 29, 1955 in Vlaardingen, Holland, the fifth daughter of Dominicus and Suzanna van Lith. She was baptized with the name Maria Dominica van Lith, and is commonly referred to as Marja (Mar-ya). Her family immigrated to the United States in April 1956, settled in Salem, Oregon, and became U.S. citizens in June 1961. She and her husband, J. Mark Henderson, have been married for nearly 44 years, and raised four children, Benjamin, Matthew, Timothy, and Jessica, in Pasco, Washington, where they continue to reside. A retired registered nurse and professional singer, she now spends much of her time being an Oma to her dozen grandchildren, six boys and six girls. Now that her husband is retired, they enjoy spending more time camping in their motorhome, cruising to exotic places, and visiting with family and friends. Long Shall You Live is her first major undertaking as an author. She was committed to the challenge her parents imprinted on her about the Holocaust, to Never forget what happened, and never let it happen again! Her hope is that it will become an important message of strength through faith, hope, and lasting love for all who read it.
