OverviewExcerpt from London, Vol. 3: Being an Accurate History and Description of the British Metropolis and Its Neighbourhood, to Thirty Miles Extent, From an Actual Perambulation This church has a tower, the top of which, instead of pinnacles, a spire, or turrets, is crowned with arches, sup ported by Corinthian columns. Expressing, that as by the Levitical law the priest was to have the skin of the lamb offered; so that here placed, is to demonstrate, that our high priest Christ Jesus, the lamb of God, hath offered himself a sacrifice, of which that under the law was only a type. The length of the building is seventy-height feet, breadth sixty, and altitude forty-one, and that of the tower is about ninety feet: it is of stone, and the roof of the church covered with lead.
