Author Information

The author Robert Tanitch, a playwright, author and critic, had the first professional production of one of his plays while he was still up at Oxford. His comedies include Call It Love (London and Vienna), Came the Knight (directed by Trevor Nunn at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry) and Highly Confidential (starring Hermione Gingold in London). He has been the Old Vic Theatre's education projects director and has lectured on Shakespeare and run seminars in England, Australia, Indonesia and Kenya. He has written and directed the cassette series, Shakespeare Interviews. His first book was A Pictorial Companion to Shakespeare's Plays. Since then he has published a series of highly acclaimed theatre books and filmographies on Ralph Richardson, Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, Alec Guinness, Peggy Ashcroft, and Oscar Wilde on Stage and Screen.
