Bien que les textes de Suhrawardī aient été disponibles en deux éditions et que Henry Corbin, Hossein Ziai et John Walbridge aient réalisé un travail préparatoire précieux, personne n'avait établi de lien convaincant entre la conception très originale de Suhrawardī de la connaissance par la présence et son système logique. Ziai et Walbridge étaient convaincus, tout comme d'autres chercheurs tels que Frank Griffel, que la logique novatrice de Suhrawardī ne pouvait s'expliquer comme Corbin l'avait fait, en termes de mysticisme, mais au-delà de cela, ils ne pouvaient proposer aucune voie claire à suivre. La brillante intuition de Seck est de voir qu'une bonne compréhension de l'adaptation par Suhrawardī des modalités temporelles d'Avicenne n'est possible qu'à travers la compréhension de la connaissance par la présence de Suhrawardī. Ziai and Walbridge were convinced, along with other scholars like Frank Griffel, that Suhrawardī's innovative logic could not be explained as Corbin had explained it, in terms of mysticism, but beyond that, they could suggest no clear path ahead. Seck's brilliant insight is to see that a proper understanding of Suhrawardī's adaptation of Avicenna's temporal modalities is only possible through understanding Suhrawardī's knowledge-by-presence. It is clear to me that this is an exceptional piece of research that is an outstanding contribution not only to the study of the history of Arabic logic, but to the interpretation of Suhrawardī and his role in the development of post-Avicennan philosophy.
