Overview

In den 1920er Jahren waren schnellaufende Dieselmaschinen fur Schiffe noch weitgehend technisches Neuland. Neben Segeln wurde in erster Linie Dampf fur den Antrieb von Schiffen verwendet. Der Dampfantrieb war zwar kraftvoll, erwies sich aber als teuer, stoeranfallig und wenig flexibel, insbesondere fur kleinere Schiffe. So wundert es nicht, dass sich der schnellaufende Dieselotor (damals noch OElmotor genannt) auch im Schiffbau rasch etablierte. Gerhards beschreibt den gesamten Schiffsoelmaschinenbetrieb jener Zeit in Theorie und Praxis. Das Buch richtet sich in erster Linie an Eigner, Betreiber oder Liebhaber historischer Schiffe.
