Livestock

Overview

LIVESTOCK Alaçatı whispers of endless turquoise waters and easy salvation. But for Egor, a bartender clinging to the ragged edge of sobriety, the resort town reveals itself as a sun-bleached purgatory. Here, the hospitality machine strips away the glamour to expose a feral order-a world cloven in two: those who wield the whip, and those bred merely as livestock. Beneath the merciless Aegean sun, Egor binds himself to a high-end bar that functions as an abattoir. He is drawn into a psychological death-dance with Nedim, a chemically deranged floor manager who embodies the erratic cruelty of the system itself. In a place where excess is the only religion, sobriety is a mortal sin. What begins as seasonal labor devolves into a desperate ballet upon the razor's edge of madness. Sparked by a violent reckoning on a night bus and choked by the toxic exhaust of unending nights, Egor's defenses rot away. As the season hurtles toward its apocalyptic climax, the boundary between the hunter and the hunted bleeds out into the dark. Ultimately, Livestock is the story of a man fighting to stand upright in a world built to break him to his knees.

Author Information

Egor Nekrasov was born in 1990 in a small industrial town in the Ural region of central Russia - a place of smokestacks, long winters, and stories that rarely get written down.As a teenager, he played in punk and hardcore bands, drifting across the country on low budgets and borrowed time. Those early, half-legal travels carved the foundation of his writing: a restless curiosity, an eye for the overlooked, and a quiet obsession with the many cultures layered across Russia - a country where more than a hundred indigenous languages are still spoken, often in the margins. After a decade behind the bar in Saint Petersburg - Russia's cultural capital, equal parts poetry and decay - he left in 2019 and set out on an open-ended journey that has yet to find its conclusion. Along the way, he has taken on whatever work came his way, echoing the lives of the characters he once admired in books: transient, searching, slightly out of place.During these years, he filled notebooks relentlessly. Fragments of those journals would later find their way into Livestock. In Latin America, he began writing his first novel - deliberately abandoning his native Russian in favor of English, a language that offered both distance and a new kind of freedom. He is currently based in Brazil, mostly in São Paulo, where he teaches Spanish and Portuguese to Russian and Ukrainian immigrants, while continuing to write and wander. Dima Shurov was born in Yekaterinburg, the industrial heart of Russia. Much like the author, his childhood was shaped by the turbulent 1990s-a decade of internal collapse, economic crises, and social upheaval. Born into a rare lineage of artists, Dima began drawing in his early years, eventually channeling his vision into the world of professional tattooing in the early 2000s, a craft he continues to master today. For the past decade, Shurov has been a prominent figure in the European art scene, with his paintings held in private collections across the continent. Beyond the canvas, he specializes in creating visceral illustrations for independent authors. Following the outbreak of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Dima relocated to France, where he currently lives and works as an emigré with his family. His work on LIVESTOCK reflects his lifelong journey through displacement and the raw aesthetics of survival.
