OverviewWhat was the theoretical underpinning to the Final Solution? Where did the National Socialists first attempt their barbarous campaign of death? How did the doctors who were influential in the creation of the Final Solution justify their actions at the Nuremberg Military Tribunal? Is the concept of consensual euthanasia the same as the actions perpetrated by the Nazis against the mentally and physically disabled? I attempt to answer these questions in my first book on the topic of medical euthanasia and the Final Solution. In Lives Unworthy of Life, I take the reader on an examination of the Aktion T4 program that exterminated the physically and mentally disabled in Germany's medical institutions and that would become the model for the mass extermination of millions of Jews, Roma, homosexuals, and other populations that the Nazis deemed inferior. By the end, I hope the reader will understand the philosophical argument that the Nazis used to justify such mass killings and reconcile their egregious actions against other human beings as beneficial to the Volk.
