""Lives in Crisis"" reports on the findings of a qualitative study of 40 homeless young people in Dublin city. It documents their journeys ""into"" homelessness and traces the life experiences and events subsequent to them becoming homeless. Among other issues, the book deals with the experience of being homeless; the challenge of surviving on the street; relationships and friendships; drug use and criminal activity; experiences of bullying, violence and victimization; health and health-related behaviour; and, help-seeking and coping strategies and service use and service utilization.""Lives in Crisis"" provides a detailed overview and discussion of the prevalence of youth (and adult) homelessness in Ireland and outlines the services and interventions designed to meet the needs of homeless youth in an Irish context. Dr Paula Mayock is a Senior Researcher at the Children's Research Centre, Trinity College Dublin, where she has responsibility for the development of a programme of research on youth ""at risk"". She has taught qualitative research methodology at the Department of Social Studies, Trinity College, Dublin, and at the Department of Socio-medical Sciences, Columbia University, New York Dr. Eoin O'Sullivan lectures in Social Policy in the School of Social Work and Social Policy at the University of Dublin, Trinity College. Recent collaborative publications include Crime and Punishment in Ireland 1922 to 2003: A Statistical Sourcebook (IPA, 2005), Crime, Punishment and the Search for Order in Ireland (IPA, 2004), Crime Control in Ireland: The Politics of Intolerance (CUP, 2001) and Suffer the Little Children: The Inside Story of Ireland's Industrial Schools (NIB 1999, 2001).
