Reviews

Tremendously erudite, lively, faith-filled. Morrow's book reveals a passion not only for the study of Scripture but also for its exegetical embodiment--liturgically, mystagogically, and even martyrologically. Indeed Scripture cannot be studied neutrally. This work further confirms Morrow's stature as one of the most stimulating and significant theologians of our times. --Matthew Levering, James N. and Mary D. Perry Jr. Chair of Theology, Mundelein Seminary Known for his scholarship on the development of modern biblical criticism, Jeffrey Morrow turns his focus here to an exegetical-theological engagement with select biblical texts. The result is a collection of insightful readings which are both thought-provoking and spiritually enriching. A welcome contribution to the ongoing project of integrating historical-critical exegesis and consciously theological hermeneutics. --William M. Wright IV, Professor of Theology, Duquesne University One of the most important and all-too-neglected tasks in biblical exegesis is to provide a robust critique of modern methods of scriptural interpretation. Once again, Morrow has stepped forward as a competent and distinguished thought-leader in this conversation. Each of the five 'constructive' essays turn the exegetical orb to another angle, with exquisite, consistent results. Every committed teacher of the Bible, and every serious student too, ought to drop what they're reading and pick up this thoroughly enriching work. --Steven C. Smith, Department Chair, Associate Professor of Biblical Exegesis, Mundelein Seminary
