The ""Little Egypt Mysteries"" series is a tribute to the people and places he has known. The town of Prairie Gate, while fictionalized, is built on the collective memories of the area's small communities, where everyone knows everyone and a secret is a commodity to be guarded. Chiefton's work is an exploration of the ways that the past is never truly gone, and how old wounds can surface in the most unexpected ways. The neighboring town of Hickory Creek also plays a prominent role. When not writing, Chiefton can often be found at home, nursing a cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea and listening to the quiet hum of the countryside going about its day. He believes that every story is a lie that tells a truth, and he's always on the lookout for a new truth to tell. The Little Egypt Mysteries are his way of honoring the people and the place that shaped him, one page at a time.
