This document offers a more in-depth understanding of the mysterious process and challenges of humanitarian decision making and gives practical recommendations to make humanitarian analysis and decision making more effective. It is based on my over thirty years of experience in the humanitarian sector, working for the U.S. Agency for International Development, the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, UNICEF and the US Department of State. It is based on extensive literature research, surveys, and interviews with humanitarian decision makers. The book consists of twelve short chapters and includes case studies, lessons learned, best practices, and recommendations for the humanitarian community professionals at all levels.
