OverviewWith this volume the authors Buzzi-Ferraris and Manenti explain the theoretical aspects of linear programming in chemical engineering in an informal way, giving way to an applied approach to this scientific discipline. As a result, readers can tackle specific problems in linear programming and develop the skills to implement an appropriate program and ad hoc algorithm to solve it. The book begins with an introduction to current methods in linear programming, focusing on the solution of concrete problems and including many examples, applications, code samples, programming, and overall programs. The strengths of the book are the numerous case studies and examples dealing with, amongst others, problems in transportation, blending, and petroleum-refining operations, as well as such large-scale operations as enterprise-wide optimization, production scheduling, the planning of decentralized productions, and the allocation of carbon dioxide emissions. All the examples are based on the established BzzMath library, which is freely available and was developed by Buzzi-Ferraris himself, with sample codes and the software itself provided online. As with previous volumes in this series, special icons highlight important features and concepts and facilitate orientation.
