OverviewBorderline personality disorder is a highly prevalent personality disorder; however, only a minority of studies have examined prescribing patterns for borderline personality disorder, particularly in hospital wards. The aim of this study was to establish an epidemiological and clinical profile of borderline patients hospitalised in the psychiatric ward.In total, we collected 101 cases; the prevalence of borderline personality disorder was 7.3%. With an exclusively male representation, the average age of our population was 29.9 years. Its clinical polymorphism is due to high psychiatric comorbidity. The most common comorbidity was substance use disorder, and the average length of stay was 23 days. Conclusion: To date, pharmacotherapy alone is not sufficient to manage the complexity of borderline personality disorder. The combination of medication and psychotherapy can improve specific aspects of the symptoms of borderline personality disorder.
