Old Greenesboro has fallen. In the aftermath of Greenesboro's fiery demise, Everett Greene and the survivors of the Dark Hour have ventured into the North Woods to rebuild their lives, all the while harboring a terrible secret. The Strange Man, that demonic figure who led Greenesboro to ruin, is chained deep within Greene's camp, awaiting heaven's final judgment. When heaven tarries in coming to claim the prisoner, the Strange Man begins his end game, seeking to breed mistrust and fear among his captors. As Everett struggles to keep his fragmented community united, salvation seems to arrive in the form of his former companions, the Halloween Society, a clandestine cabal of gunslingers dedicated to battling devils. They seek to commandeer the Strange Man for their own mysterious purposes, and the remaining citizens of Greenesboro are all too eager to turn over their unwanted guest. Still, Everett hesitates, suspicious regarding the Society's true intent. Facing pressures from within his own camp as well as the Strange Man's insidious mind games, Everett finds himself in a confrontation that will determine the fate of generations to come.
