Overview

Research in physics teaching has highlighted the importance of using supplementary texts (ST) in learning processes, as additional resources capable of contributing to the expansion of dialogue in school environments. Texts of this nature enable interactions and, as a result, promote the construction of knowledge and the application of scientifically accepted concepts. This construction is structured, triggered, and effected through the mediation of the teacher, whose role is fundamental in this process of conceptual development. With this in mind, an evaluation of the material was carried out, taking into account what students learned about the concepts covered in it. The specific knowledge discussed during the use of the text involved concepts of optics such as light, its nature, its propagation, the ""LASER,"" and its applications. The analysis revealed dimensions that signal important contributions of the use of TP in the teaching of physics.
