Pope John Paul II's purpose in introducing the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary was to encourage meditation on those events of Jesus' public life that were missing from the more familiar and traditional mysteries. As the Pope explained, 'It is during the years of his public ministry that the mystery of Christ is most evidently a mystery of light: While I am in the world, I am the light of the world ' (John 9:5). It was also his hope that the new mysteries would give fresh life to the practice of this devotion within the Catholic Church. This book of reflections on each of the Mysteries of Light is intended for those who pray the rosary but will also be useful for those who do not. Skillfully blending texts from Old and New Testaments, as well as the author's extensive experience of pilgrimage in the Holy Land, the book helps us reflect on the events of the life of Jesus and how those mysteries of his life connect with our own.
