He decided to write a song and asked his brother, Rosamond, to write he music. The result was one of the most spiritually uplifting songs ever written. He died in 1938. Elizabeth Catlett was an artist whose work is displayed around the world. The illustrations from Lift Every Voice and Sing were originally part of the collection she created with the Julius Rosenwald Foundation grant she was awarded in the 1940s. She died in 2012.
