OverviewThe signs of autism are not quite as obvious as the general public may think. This book is designed to provide information parents and anyone affected by autism or related pervasive developmental disorders. There is also information regarding screening tests so parents have an idea of what to expect. The book is designed to encourage families to seek support by working with other families who are having similar experiences with autism. Support services for siblings as well as caregivers are really important in the whole family unit. It is important that every family member becomes involved with the autistic child's treatment. The family unit is the core of any treatment plan. Included in the text is a collection of tips that I hope will be useful. Hopefully, application of the various tips can be used in home, school and community settings. The book is designed as a practical guide for parents to follow. Over the years, I have learned a lot about autism and related pervasive developmental disorders. No matter how much research I do, no information is more valuable than that that I have learned from my clients. I hope that parents, family members and professionals working in the field of autism look to their children as our greatest instructors.
