Author Information

Lisa Nalbone is an educator, author and passionate advocate of lifelong learning. With her many years of experience in the classroom, homeschooling, unschooling, and community organizing, Lisa has inspired hundreds of families and children to embrace their curiosity and love for learning. Through practical advice and strategies, her approach to self-directed education is nurturing, warmly honest and generous. She encourages creating safe and trusting environments where kids can grow into their creativity and confidence which gives them the best possible foundation for adulthood. As mother to the unschooled Dale Stephens, founder of Uncollege and author of Hacking Your Education - she has a wealth of hands-on experience about the challenges and joys of self-directed learning. This has driven her consulting and coaching where she helps families overcome worries about unschooling and the transition between traditional schooling and self-directed methods. Lisa now lives in sunny California with her husband where she still has many adventures gardening, hosting potlucks, volunteering at the library and playing ukulele. She is always learning and happy to help others with her warm and enthusiastic demeanor! For more than 25 years, Carrie has pursued a variety of creative arts, taking both handcrafted and digital forms. She has taught individual and group lessons in everything from painting and calligraphy to Photoshop. She has presented her work in craft fairs and free-lanced for individuals and companies. She has poured her passion into her brush, her pen, her scroll saw, and her laptop. Along the way, she has generously shared her skills with all who wanted to learn.
