Life Like Rainbow Grey...: A Play Based on True Life Events

Overview

Life Like Rainbow Grey..., a play based on real life events, gently exposes situations found within three-dimensional realities of child abuse, breaking the ceiling of learning and possibilities by taking its audiences, both humorously and poignantly, into worlds of love and transformation beyond limited mind concepts. The female protagonist, who embodies a sprite and soulful demeanor, represents traumatic events endured by children from abusive homes. These children, upon being rescued, become wards of state, most often destined to be raised in institutions called 'group homes'. They have a high chance of being further abused within the system, and almost no chance of being adopted into new, healthy families. The male protagonist represents a look at the deteriorating state of relationships within an intimate commitment, such as, marriage.Rahmani's work with children in the U.S. and in India spans over thirty years, since the late eighties. A counselor to troubled youth in the west and in the east, caregiver in group homes, a nanny, a Big Sister in LA county's volunteer program, a teacher in Inglewood inner city school and in a private high school in Santa Monica, a spiritual guide and mentor to children from slums in India, her experiences have shaped her resolve to always focus deep and aim high in creative offerings for all youth. Life Like Rainbow Grey... is inspired by Rahmani's experiences with group home based children in Los Angeles and her own spiritual journey's empowering gifts. The play premiered at the American Embassy's Cultural Center, New Delhi in 2014, in celebration of Women's International Day and on World Peace Day. It moved its audiences to experience universal, eternal truths, and hope, through a unique and profound journey.
