My mother never achieved education beyond the second grade, never had any formal training, never went farther than a few miles from the four places she called home, never enjoyed the conveniences we take for granted, slept on the floor most of her life, ate scraps, and lived the image of an indigent all her life. Yet, despite my intense study, my PhD in organic chemistry, the giants of intellects I encountered throughout my globe-trotting, the sophisticates of the world, and the wealthy and powerful I have met, she stood as a staggering GIANT who completely transformed me. The following is an account of the words, teachings, and life of the quality of Maria Lucia, my mother (affectionately, Mamata from our native Calabrian), whose work was not understood by me during her life. I heard that it takes 40 years to genuinely appreciate parents, but for me it was only after their death. This book recounts her lessons including deeper spiritual interpretation of these concepts.
