Reviews

""I absolutely loved it. What a joy this book has been to read."" Valerie D. ""Both the poems and prose are thought-provoking. The author's integration of her mother's poetry with her stories and observations gives the reader the opportunity to reflect on their own thoughts. I found some of the poems reached me where the prose didn't, and vice versa."" Sue F. ""It strikes me as a book that would appeal to women, especially those in a transitional period of life: a recent college graduate, a newlywed, a new mother, a recent divorcee, or a widow."" Alexandra D. ""I could feel her mother's states of being in her words."" Rebecca L. ""I love the idea of Monthly Resolutions."" Karena E. ""Great advice and beautiful poetry!"" Audrey D. ""The Introduction was very helpful in understanding how the book was conceived and organized."" Araminta F. ""The Horse That Taught Me About Backup Plans is my favorite piece."" Don D. ""Karen is the mentor we always wanted."" Melissa L.

Author Information

Karen S. Justice has gathered stories and observations for nearly eight decades. She's lived in twenty-nine homes, from Florida to Alaska, and across the sea to Norway and Germany. Having traveled in over forty countries, she has had numerous opportunities for collecting. While living in Norway, Karen earned her MBA, which, despite being an unconventional choice after her BS in home economics, proved to be ideally suited for her mid-life transitions. She has taught students from ages three to seventy-three, written promotional materials for tourism and inventions, authored articles for newspapers and magazines, managed nonprofits, and facilitated strategic planning. Living through changes, challenges, successes, and serendipitous moments has helped her gain the insights and wisdom she shares when teaching, mentoring, and writing. Along with frequent relocations and lost friends, Karen has also experienced marital separation and widowhood. The changes brought on by becoming a widow created entirely new circumstances, leading her to co-author the award-winning Widows Among Us: Stories and Insights.Claiming a frequent toddler-like attitude, Karen is always asking, ""Why?"" and ""How?"" The world continues to inspire those questions. ""What about?"" and ""Look at this"" are her other favorites. With her inquisitive mind, Karen is a frequent visitor to search engines. She found one of her best answers on Match.com. Her new love shares her passion for travel and learning new things. When she isn't exploring the world, Karen actively participates in Woman to Woman Mentoring, Inc., her local Women's Giving Circle, and her church. She loves spending time with friends and family, and being among the trees or beside a lake or stream. She enjoys photography, especially capturing patterns and details. A lover of great food, Karen still cooks occasionally, but cooking for one is no fun; dining out with friends is a double treat. If the meal ends with a chocolate dessert, all the better. You can find more updates and links to her other books on her website, www.karenjustice.life.
